Use case

Captions for podcasts

Podcasters caption two different things: full episodes for video platforms, and short clips for social. Both start from the same transcript, here's how to produce it once and export it everywhere, without uploading an episode before release day.

One transcript, three destinations

Caption the episode once and export everything from the same project: an SRT file attaches to the video episode on YouTube; a plain-text export becomes the basis of the episode page and show notes; and the burned-in MP4 covers social clips. Because the transcript is one source of truth, a name you fix once is fixed everywhere, no divergence between what the episode says and what the captions claim.

Embargoed audio stays on your machine

Episodes regularly contain material under embargo, interview answers, news, announcements with a date attached. Cloud transcription means uploading that audio somewhere before release day. OneDrop's transcription keeps the episode where it is: the video is decoded in the browser and never uploaded, only the compressed audio is transcribed on the server and deleted right after processing, so a leaked-episode risk simply doesn't enter the picture. Guests and production partners don't need convincing; the episode file never leaves your machine.

Interview audio is the hard case

Two voices, remote calls, overlapping laughter, podcast audio stresses transcription more than a solo voiceover. The studio detects where speech happens and leans on the voice over the music bed, and it flags words it is unsure about so your review pass has a map. Fix names first: a guest's name misspelled in the first caption colors how the whole transcript is judged.

Free-plan arithmetic

The free plan covers 2 minutes of audio per day (resets at 00:00 UTC) with videos up to 2 minutes per file, the natural rhythm for clips and trailer cuts. For full episodes, split the export into parts, caption each part, and rejoin in your editor; or move to Pro, which is built around exactly this (30-minute videos, 400 monthly minutes, saved projects).

Drop your clip or episode segment into the studio and see the transcript quality on your own audio, it works without an account, and the SRT vs VTT guide covers which file each podcast platform wants.
